headstock

Neck's terminal component

The headstock is the end of a guitar or similar stringed instrument where the tuning pegs are mounted.

On a lathe, the headstock is the fixed assembly containing the spindle that holds and rotates the workpiece.

Both senses share the idea of a primary mounting point at one end of an apparatus.
