keytar

Wearable electronic instrument

A keytar is a portable keyboard instrument worn with a strap like a guitar, allowing musicians to move freely on stage rather than stand behind a stationary keyboard.

Popular in 1980s rock and pop, the keytar became associated with that era's aesthetic: He strapped on a keytar for the synth solo.

The instrument retains nostalgic and sometimes ironic appeal.
