fretboard

Where strings press

A fretboard is the flat surface on the neck of a guitar, bass, or similar stringed instrument where the player presses the strings against raised metal strips called frets to produce different notes.

Also called a fingerboard: She slid her fingers up the fretboard to reach the higher notes.
