humbucker
Noise-canceling guitar pickup
A humbucker is a type of electric guitar pickup that uses two coils wired in opposite directions to cancel electromagnetic interference—the hum that plagued earlier single-coil designs.
Humbuckers produce a fuller, warmer tone with more sustain, favored in rock, jazz, and blues: a Les Paul with dual humbuckers.
The name combines hum and buck (to resist).
