fingerpicking

Individual string plucking

Fingerpicking is a guitar technique where the player plucks strings directly with the fingernails or fingertips rather than using a pick.

The style allows simultaneous bass lines and melody, common in folk, blues, and country music: She learned fingerpicking from old Delta blues records.

The term also describes the resulting sound or musical tradition.
