tremolo bar
Vibrato lever device
A tremolo bar is a lever attached to an electric guitar's bridge that changes string tension when pressed or pulled, creating pitch variations from subtle vibrato to dramatic dive bombs.
Though called a tremolo bar, it actually produces vibrato (pitch fluctuation) rather than true tremolo (volume fluctuation).
Also called a whammy bar: He pulled back on the tremolo bar for that swooping effect.
