Novelist or essayist
A prose writer is someone who writes prose—novels, essays, journalism, or other non-verse literature.
The term often distinguishes from poets: She's primarily a prose writer, though she's published a few poems.
It can also emphasize craft in non-fiction: Joan Didion was one of America's finest prose writers.
