displaced person
War-uprooted individual
A displaced person is someone forced to leave their home, typically due to war, persecution, natural disaster, or political upheaval.
The term emerged prominently after World War II to describe millions of Europeans uprooted by the conflict.
Unlike refugee, which has specific legal meaning under international law, displaced person is broader and includes those who remain within their own country's borders.
The camp housed thousands of displaced persons awaiting resettlement.
