transit camp
Stopover detention facility
A transit camp is a temporary facility where people stay briefly before moving to a final destination.
The term most often describes camps for refugees, migrants, or displaced persons awaiting resettlement or processing: Thousands passed through the transit camp on their way to permanent housing.
Historically, the term also applied to military staging areas and, grimly, to Nazi facilities where prisoners were held before deportation to concentration camps.
