traps
Devices for catching
Traps are devices for catching animals or people—snares, pitfalls, or mechanisms that spring shut.
The meaning extends to any situation that confines or deceives: Don't fall into the trap of thinking it'll be easy.
A trap is also a light two-wheeled carriage, a bend in a pipe that holds water to block sewer gases, or the hinged door in a stage floor (trapdoor).
To trap is to catch or confine.
In slang, traps are the trapezius muscles of the upper back: He's been working on his traps at the gym.
