impingement

Unwelcome boundary crossing

Impingement is the act of encroaching or pressing against something.

In medicine, it describes tissue being compressed where it shouldn't be—a rotator cuff impingement occurs when shoulder tendons get pinched during movement.

More broadly, anything that impinges restricts or interferes: the impingement of regulations on small businesses, noise impingement from the highway.
