deadlifting
Floor-to-hip pull
Deadlifting is a weightlifting exercise where you lift a loaded barbell from the floor to hip level, then lower it back down.
The name reflects that the weight starts "dead" on the ground—no momentum assists the lift.
It's considered one of the fundamental compound movements for building overall strength: I threw out my back deadlifting.
The lift primarily targets the back, hips, and legs.
