Resting without purpose
Lounging is reclining or sitting in a relaxed, lazy way: She spent the afternoon lounging by the pool, He was lounging on the couch watching TV.
The word suggests comfortable idleness—not sleeping, but not doing much of anything either.
To lounge around is to pass time this way without particular purpose.
