DOMS

Delayed exercise soreness

DOMS is an acronym for delayed onset muscle soreness, the stiffness and aching that develops a day or two after strenuous exercise, particularly when muscles are worked in unfamiliar ways.

The pain typically peaks around 24 to 72 hours after the activity and gradually subsides.

I overdid it at the gym yesterday and now the DOMS is brutal.

The term is common in fitness communities and among athletes discussing recovery.
