Fabric window panels
Curtains are pieces of fabric hung to cover windows, block light, or provide privacy.
They also hang at the front of a stage, opening and closing to mark acts.
From this theatrical use comes the slang meaning: the end, especially death or ruin.
If they find out, it's curtains for us.
To draw the curtains can mean either to open or close them.
