proscenium
Theater's picture frame
A proscenium is the architectural frame separating a theater's stage from the auditorium—the arch through which the audience views the performance.
A proscenium stage has this frame, as opposed to thrust or arena configurations where performers are surrounded by viewers.
The term extends to the area immediately in front of the curtain: The actors took their bows at the proscenium.
