pleats

Crisp garment creases

Pleats are folds in fabric, created by doubling material back on itself and pressing or stitching it in place.

They add fullness while allowing controlled movement: a pleated skirt, knife pleats, box pleats.

Pants may have pleats at the waist for a more relaxed fit.

To pleat is to create such folds: She pleated the fabric before sewing.
