chiefs

Heads of tribes

Chiefs is the plural of chief—a leader or person in charge.

It refers to multiple heads of organizations, departments, or tribes: The fire chiefs met to coordinate response plans, tribal chiefs gathered for the council.

In American football, the Chiefs refers to the Kansas City team.

Commander in chief becomes commanders in chief in the plural, not commander in chiefs.
