Apache
Army attack chopper
Apache refers to a group of culturally related Native American peoples of the American Southwest, including the Chiricahua, Mescalero, and Western Apache nations.
Known historically for fierce resistance to Spanish, Mexican, and American expansion, Apache warriors like Geronimo and Cochise became legendary figures.
The name also designates their Athabaskan languages.
Apache appears in various commercial and technical contexts: the Apache HTTP Server is among the most widely used web server software, and Apache helicopters are U.S. military attack aircraft.
The Apache reservation spans parts of Arizona and New Mexico. (Lowercase apache refers to Parisian street criminals.)
