Midshipmen is the plural of midshipman, a naval rank for officer candidates in training.
In the U.S.
Navy, midshipmen are students at the Naval Academy or in ROTC programs: The midshipmen marched in formation at graduation.
The rank historically placed these trainees amidships, between officers and enlisted sailors.
