cavitation
Low-pressure bubble formation
Cavitation is the rapid formation and collapse of vapor bubbles in a liquid, typically caused by sudden pressure changes.
It occurs around fast-moving propellers, pumps, and hydraulic systems, where the collapsing bubbles can erode metal surfaces over time.
The propeller showed pitting from cavitation damage.
In medicine, cavitation describes the formation of cavities in tissue, as in tuberculosis affecting the lungs.
