castings

Poured metal shapes

Castings are objects formed by pouring molten material into a mold and letting it harden—metal castings, plaster castings.

The word also refers to what's discarded: anglers speak of castings (the line thrown out), and earthworm castings are the soil particles worms excrete.

In film and theater, castings are auditions or the selections made from them: The castings for the new production were announced yesterday.
