actors
They inhabit roles
Actors are performers who portray characters in plays, films, television, or other dramatic productions.
The term applies to performers of any gender, though *actress* persists for women in some contexts.
Beyond entertainment, actor extends to anyone playing a role or taking action in a situation: bad actors in the financial system, key actors in the negotiations.
