A shortlist is a reduced list of candidates or options that have made it past initial screening.
From a pool of applicants, a committee produces a shortlist of finalists: Three candidates were shortlisted for the position.
The verb shortlist means to place on such a list.
British spelling often hyphenates: short-list.
