Sprue has two unrelated meanings.
In manufacturing, a sprue is the channel through which molten metal or plastic flows into a mold, or the solidified material left in that channel after casting: Snap off the sprue before painting the model.
In medicine, sprue refers to intestinal disorders that impair nutrient absorption, particularly celiac disease (celiac sprue) and tropical sprue.
