carpentering

Constructing with timber

Carpentering is the work of a carpenter—building and repairing wooden structures.

The word functions as both a verb form and a noun for the trade itself: He spent the summer carpentering for his uncle, She learned carpentering from her father.

Less common than carpentry, which names the same occupation.
