dentil

Classical ornamental block

A dentil is one of a series of small, evenly spaced rectangular blocks forming a decorative band in classical architecture, typically found beneath a cornice.

The pattern resembles a row of teeth—hence the name.

The Federal-style building featured ornate dentil molding along the roofline.
