chamfering

Cutting corner angles

Chamfering is the process of cutting away a right-angled edge to create a beveled surface, typically at 45 degrees.

The technique appears in woodworking, metalworking, and masonry to soften sharp corners, ease assembly, or add decorative detail: chamfering the edges of the tabletop, chamfering bolt holes to accept countersunk screws.
