razing
Leveling a building
Razing is the act of completely destroying a building or structure, tearing it down to the ground.
The word comes from a root meaning to scrape or scratch away.
Cities raze condemned buildings; armies raze enemy fortifications.
The old factory is scheduled for razing next month.
Not to be confused with raising, its opposite in meaning but identical in sound.
