sortie
Raid from within
A sortie is a military mission, especially a single combat flight by one aircraft: The squadron flew twelve sorties that day.
The word extends from its original meaning of a sudden attack by troops breaking out from a defensive position.
More casually, a sortie is any brief expedition or outing: a sortie to the grocery store.
