distilling
Boiling then condensing
Distilling is the process of purifying a liquid by heating it until it vaporizes, then cooling the vapor back to liquid form.
The technique separates alcohol from fermented mixtures to make spirits, or removes impurities from water.
Figuratively, distilling means reducing something to its essence: The report distills years of research into key findings.
The spelling distilling (double L) is standard in both American and British English.
