forage
Hunt for provisions
Forage is food for grazing animals—hay, grass, or other plants.
To forage is to search for food, originally said of animals but now common for humans gathering wild edibles: We foraged for mushrooms in the woods.
Extended uses describe any wide-ranging search: She foraged through the closet for her old jacket.
