microbrewery

Small beer producer

A microbrewery is a small brewery producing limited quantities of beer, typically with emphasis on quality, flavor, and traditional brewing methods over mass production.

Microbreweries often experiment with styles and ingredients that larger commercial breweries avoid.

The term emerged in the 1970s–80s as craft brewing revived: We visited three microbreweries on our trip through Vermont.
