barley water
Boiled cereal beverage
Barley water is a drink made by boiling barley in water, then straining and often flavoring with lemon or other fruit.
Traditional in Britain as a mild, soothing beverage, it was long given to invalids and nursing mothers.
Commercial versions like Robinson's are sweetened and sold as soft drinks: Would you like some lemon barley water?
