ball valve

Rotating sphere shutoff

A ball valve is a valve that controls flow through a pipe using a pivoting ball with a hole through its center.

When the hole aligns with the pipe, fluid passes through; rotating the ball ninety degrees blocks flow completely.

Ball valves are prized for their quick operation and tight seal: Turn the ball valve to shut off the water supply.
