shutoff

Valve that stops

A shutoff is a device or mechanism that stops the flow of something—water, gas, electricity, fuel: The emergency shutoff prevented a flood.

It also names the act of stopping such flow: a government-ordered shutoff of utilities.

An automatic shutoff activates without human intervention when certain conditions are met.
