Cylindrical rotating support
A trunnion is a cylindrical projection on each side of a cannon, mortar, or similar device that serves as a pivot point, allowing the barrel to be raised or lowered for aiming.
The term extends to any similar paired pivots in machinery—axles or pins that support rotation or tilting: The front suspension uses trunnion mounts.
In plumbing, a trunnion ball valve has the ball supported by trunnions above and below.
