gate valve

Pipeline shutoff device

A gate valve is a type of valve that controls flow by raising or lowering a flat barrier (the gate) into the path of a fluid.

When fully open, the gate retracts completely out of the flow path, creating minimal resistance; when closed, it forms a tight seal.

Gate valves are designed primarily for on-off control rather than throttling, and are common in water mains, pipelines, and industrial applications where unobstructed flow is desirable.
