aerial lift

Mountain cable ride

An aerial lift is a mechanical system that transports people or cargo through the air, typically using cables suspended between towers or pylons.

The term covers ski lifts, gondolas, aerial tramways, and similar conveyances.

In workplace contexts, aerial lift also refers to vehicle-mounted platforms that raise workers to elevated positions: The crew used an aerial lift to trim branches near the power lines.
