crossarm

Utility pole beam

A crossarm is a horizontal beam attached to a utility pole, from which wires and insulators are mounted.

Power lines and telephone cables hang from crossarms, which extend perpendicular to the pole to keep multiple wires separated at safe distances: The old wooden crossarms were rotting and needed replacement.
