Steep slope train
A cog railway is a steep mountain railroad that uses a toothed rail between the tracks, engaged by a cogwheel on the locomotive to prevent slipping.
The system allows trains to climb grades too steep for conventional friction-based railways: The cog railway carried tourists to the summit.
Also called a rack railway.
