paparazzi

Tabloid camera chasers

Paparazzi are freelance photographers who aggressively pursue celebrities to capture candid shots for tabloids and gossip media.

The word is Italian, borrowed from a photographer character in Fellini's 1960 film *La Dolce Vita*.

A single such photographer is a paparazzo, though paparazzi often serves for both singular and plural: The paparazzi swarmed the restaurant exit.
