Broadway

Manhattan's marquee street

The principal thoroughfare of a town or city, especially in earlier times, was typically called Broadway, and the name survives in cities and towns the world over.

Because the professional theater district in New York City grew up around the Broadway there, Broadway also refers to theater in New York or to the American theater industry generally.
