typecast

Given repetitive roles

To typecast an actor is to cast them repeatedly in the same kind of role, usually because of physical appearance or a successful earlier performance: He was typecast as the nerdy sidekick.

The word extends beyond acting to anyone pigeonholed into a narrow category: She felt typecast as the office tech person.

In computing, to typecast is to convert data from one type to another.
