West Indians

Caribbean region's people

West Indians are people from the West Indies—the islands of the Caribbean Sea, including Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, and many others.

The term reflects Columbus's mistaken belief that he had reached India.

In British contexts especially, West Indian often refers to people of Caribbean heritage: the West Indian community in London, West Indian cricket.
