riddim

Minimalist electronic bass

Riddim is a Jamaican patois pronunciation of "rhythm," used in reggae and dancehall music to describe the instrumental backing track over which vocalists sing or toast.

Multiple artists often record different vocals over the same riddim, creating distinct songs that share an identical beat: Three different artists voiced that riddim.

In electronic dance music, riddim denotes a subgenre of dubstep characterized by repetitive, mechanical basslines and minimal melodic variation.
