plantain
Starchy tropical fruit
Plantain refers to two unrelated plants.
The first is a banana-like fruit common in tropical cuisines, starchier and less sweet than dessert bananas, typically cooked before eating: fried plantains, plantain chips.
The second is a low-growing weed with broad ribbed leaves, found in lawns and disturbed ground throughout temperate regions.
