zouk
Martinique dance music
Zouk is a style of dance music that originated in the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique in the 1980s, characterized by a slow, sensual beat and synthesizer-heavy production.
The word comes from a Creole term for party.
Zouk has influenced dance music across the Caribbean, Africa, and Brazil: The club played zouk all night.
