Indo-Caribbean

Subcontinental island heritage

Indo-Caribbean describes people of South Asian descent living in or originating from the Caribbean, or things relating to them.

Most trace their ancestry to indentured laborers brought from India to work sugar plantations after slavery's abolition, particularly in Trinidad, Guyana, Jamaica, and Suriname.

The term encompasses a distinct cultural fusion: Indo-Caribbean cuisine blends Indian spices with Caribbean ingredients.
