municipality
Town with officials
A municipality is a city, town, or other district with its own local government.
The term is administrative rather than descriptive of size—a small village and a major city can both be municipalities if they have governing authority over local affairs.
The municipality voted to raise property taxes.
Municipal is the adjective: municipal bonds, municipal elections.
